Behind the pretty pictures I’ve made for years, is someone who’s dedicated to helping people shape their brand. I’ve specialized in personal branding for women – and with the onslaught of AI, protecting your brand has never been more important – or more at risk. Here’s what the data is actually showing, and why most people jumping head first into the AI conversation aren’t leading with the part that matters most.
What the Numbers Are Actually Telling Us
Since I mostly work with women and my customers are also mostly women, this stat is startling to me.
According to ALM Corp and Datarefs AI Job Displacement Statistics 2026, 79% of women are considered high risk for AI automation. Compare that to 58% of men. That's not a small number. That's a 21-point difference that should be the headline of every conversation about AI and the future of work - and it's barely mentioned.
So what do women do when the traditional path gets less reliable? They build their own. According to the Gusto 2025 New Business Formation Report and U.S. Census Bureau data from February 2026, 49% of all new businesses in the U.S. are now started by women. Up from 29% in 2019. A 69% surge in seven years. This is the hopeful part to me.
Coincidence? I don't think so. When you can't depend on someone else to give you a seat at the table, you build the table yourself. I did this over twenty years ago. In fact, women have always known how to do that. What's changed is the scale.
AI Has Already Been in Your Day for Years
Here's the part that gets complicated.
Your map app reroutes you without asking. Netflix decides what you want to watch next. Amazon anticipates your next purchase before you've thought of it. We accepted all of that without much debate.
But when AI touches our work - the thing we built, the words we chose, the voice we spent years developing - it feels completely different. And it should.
According to the KPMG Trust in AI Global Study 2025, 57% of employees admit to hiding their AI usage from their employers. More than half. That number tells you everything about the discomfort sitting underneath all the enthusiasm.
I can tell when people are using it - even if they already learned to avoid the major tells. I can really see it when someone who never wrote before becomes a profoundly deep thinker over night. You know you've seen them in your feed. I don't want that to be you. So, I want to talk about what this is actually doing. If not to you directly, maybe to the brands you follow. Because AI isn't going away. I'm not a fan, for many reasons - but I'm also realistic. And I didn't commit my career to wanting to uplift women just to see them get drowned out by a seductive force like artifical intelligence.
What AI Actually Is - And Why It Matters for Your Brand
AI was trained on trillions of words. It learned which ideas get repeated. Which voices get cited. Which sources get trusted. It doesn't think. It predicts.
That distinction matters more than most people realize - especially for women building personal brands and consulting practices.
Clarity and consistency in your language didn't just help humans find you. AI learned to look for those same signals. Which means the women who built recognizable, consistent voices before this wave hit are at an advantage right now.
Without strict guidance, AI doesn't amplify your voice. It dilutes it. The result sounds professional. It sounds polished. It sounds like everyone else who asked the same question.
That's not your brand. That's the very basic average of everyone's brand.
What 20 Years of Building Actually Taught Me
I launched Sugarluxe in 2005. No web templates. No formal training. No roadmap and no safety net. I taught myself SEO early - before anyone was talking about how to be found online - because I understood that language was how the world would find me.
It worked. For years every product I sold sat in the first spot on Google. A publisher found me. Press found me. Celebrities and major retailers found me. Not a single dollar spent on Google ads.
The landscape has changed completely since then. But the lesson around it hasn't. Your voice is the source. Language is how the world finds it.
What's Actually at Stake
Search engines rewarded clear consistent voice first. Social platforms rewarded it next. Now AI rewards it the most - and it's also the most capable of replacing it if you let it.
Between 40% and 60% of AI citations change every single month. The sources AI trusts today may not be the ones it surfaces tomorrow. The only constant is a voice built with enough clarity that it can't be mistaken for someone else.
What This Means for You Right Now
You don't need to be louder. You don't need more content. You don't need a bigger platform.
You need to sound like yourself. Clearly. Consistently. Everywhere.
That's not a content strategy. That's your entire personal brand - and it's the one thing AI cannot generate for you because it doesn't exist anywhere in its training data. It only exists in you.
The women who understand this right now are the ones who will still be standing after the next wave and the one after that. I've been watching these patterns across technology cycles for two decades. The tools change, the platforms evolve, but your distinctive brand voice needs to stay the same. Don't let AI water it down.
Ready to Protect What You've Built?
I work with women leaders and entrepreneurs on exactly this - making sure your brand voice is defined clearly enough that no tool, no team member, and no algorithm can dilute it without you knowing.
