Launched Valentine’s Day, 2005 – before Etsy, the same day as YouTube and before most of us even had access to Facebook, I wanted to do something many said would be impossible.
It seems so commonplace now, but at the time it was this completely wild idea that people might buy original art online directly from a website of an unknown, unrepresented artist. But I was determined to use the internet as a way to connect with potential collectors and find possible collaborators.
Within a year of debuting my initial collection, an opportunity with this famous celebrity put me on the map. What followed was a whirlwind of offers that allowed me the chance to pair my art with all kinds of cool retail products – making my previous Sugarluxe portfolio available in boutiques, major retailers and fine art galleries around the globe.
